Results of KfW's economic research

The analyses performed by KfW's Department of Economics focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany - their financing needs, their innovative behaviour, their activities abroad, their economic situation, their earnings situation, their equity resources, their access to investment and venture capital, in short: everything that is relevant to SMEs and SME policy. In particular, these analyses take the form of examinations based on KfW's own data carried out in order to draw an empirically based picture of the economic situation of SMEs in Germany.

In addition, the Department of Economics analyses difficulties related to environmental and climate protection, studies the market for renewable sources of energy, examines the financing of community infrastructure projects and the budget situation of communities; in addition, it helps solve problems arising in the housing sector. Furthermore the Research includes topics of education finance.

The results are presented in three current series of publications with different volumes.

They also contain information material on topics of current interest - such as Basel II/Rating, tradable certificates in climate protection, the regional development of eastern Germany or securitisation transactions - which is of particular interest to experts in the relevant areas.

Using data from the KfW Start-Up Monitor, the flyer provides a brief overview on start-up activity in Germany.
